Introduction to Light Bars
Light Bars are a piece of equipment to which lighting is mounted on a truck or other vehicle. This can include emergency vehicles, hunting or tracking vehicles, seasonal vehicles that have to deal with rain or snow, or recreational vehicles like trucks or off-roading rides. At Capitol Lighting, we understand the need for our customers’ vehicles to properly illuminated with sufficient lighting, warning power, and no product quite meets the warning output of the Light Bar.
Originally, a Light Bar referred to a simple metal bar on the roof of the vehicle upon which agencies would mount two the visual lights or signals or sirens. As technology advanced, the individual components of the light bar were integrated into a single contiguous unit, allowing for more rotating beacons, additional mirrors, and fixed-beam lights toward the center. Light bars may now contain fixed/ rotating/strobe/ LED-based lights in various configurations and offering programmable flash patterns. They may include a second, lower, tier of "takedown" lights towards the front to illuminate the vehicle being stopped, clear side-facing "alley" spotlights, additional amber or red towards the rear for scene protection, or directional traffic advisory arrows. The modern trend in many light bar models is eliminating the siren housing in lieu of more lighting.
Different Types and Applications of Light Bars
The most important form of lighting on a vehicle is emergency vehicle lighting. You need visual warning lights fitted to a vehicle for use when the driver wishes to convey to other road users urgency, to provide additional warning of a hazard, or in the case of law enforcement as a means of signaling another driver to stop for an officer. These light bars may be dedicated emergency lights, such as a beacon or a light bar, or may be modified stock lighting, and are additional to any standard lighting on the car such as hazard lights. Often, they are used along with a siren in order to increase their effectiveness.
Capitol Lighting light bars contain onboard flasher modules, giving the operator choice between over 20 industry-standard and innovative flash patterns, as well as control over the takedown, alleys, and traffic advisor features on the light bar. Our light bars come with standardized clear lenses for added ‘stealth’ when the light bar is powered off. Turn on the light bar, and you get blinding output from the LED modules, with customizable optic choices between TIR and Linear styles.
